Faux Painting Furniture

Changing the look of an old piece of furniture can be as easy as painting it. Faux painting furniture is even more impressive.

There are a couple of simple techniques that will make the furniture look unique and professionally refinished.

Before you begin applying any color to your furniture, be sure that is it is clean and smooth. This is very important so that whatever you do will not only look professional, but also make your job much easier.

Once you're ready to paint, here's some techniques you may like:

Antiquing furniture : Antiquing is very beautiful! Furniture that is professionally done this way can be very expensive. But for the cost of a couple of quarts of paint, you can have this look on any piece of furniture you want.

Distressed furniture painting : Distressing a piece of furniture gives it a nice weathered look and add character. It's a fairly easy process. This technique has even saved some furniture I was about to get rid of.

Crackle faux painting on furniture : The crackle effect on furniture is very impressive. It again gives a lot of character to a piece of furniture. It gives it another type of antique effect that can complement many different design ideas depending on your color choice.

Remember to make sure the piece you're working on is clean and ready to paint. Cleaning your piece of furniture may require doing so with a detergent or solvent and maybe even a little sanding.

Some furniture dusting chemicals can leave residues that actually work against your paint. What you would actually see is your new paint separating even before it dries.

So if you have perhaps used some cleaning or dusting chemicals on it in the past, it would be a good idea to clean it with at least a cloth that is damp with warm water.

If the piece was previously painted make sure the current finish is smooth. Any irregularities will show through the new finish. A little light sanding will usually take care of this.

I hope these pages give you inspiration as well as suggestions that will help you get the WOW! factor for your faux painting furniture project.
